Why Perfume Factories Have High MOQs?

Table of Contents

For perfume processing, many perfume processing factories have MOQs, which means that they do not accept small-scale perfume processing orders in their business operations. Typically, the minimum order quantity for perfume processing is in the thousands, such as when customizing a batch of sunscreen sprays. In some medium to large perfume manufacturers, the minimum order quantity is generally set at 5,000 bottles.

So, why are there minimum order quantities, and what factors influence these decisions? Let’s explore these factors together:

Requirements from Perfume Manufacturers

For small-scale perfume manufacturers, they can usually accommodate small orders for perfume processing, and the requirements are not high. If they are producing semi-finished products, the quantity is often measured in kilograms, and dozens of kilograms are typically sufficient for customization. If they are producing finished products, it is usually measured in bottles, and some perfume manufacturers can handle orders as small as one or two thousand bottles. However, these small orders often cannot be prioritized on the production line because of the high volume of business orders. Additionally, producing small orders requires adjustments to the production line, equipment cleaning and disinfection, and personnel allocation. Customizing small batches of private label perfumes is time-consuming, labor-intensive, and often yields minimal profit. This is why some large perfume manufacturers prefer larger-scale perfume processing orders. The minimum order quantity requirements are determined to some extent by the production scale of the perfume manufacturer—the larger the scale, the higher the minimum order quantity.

Factors Affecting Minimum Order Quantities for Perfume Processing

This is related to the industry chain. When perfume processing factories receive orders for customizing private label perfumes, they need to purchase custom packaging materials, raw materials, and schedule production. In terms of packaging material quantities, many packaging material manufacturers set the requirement at 5,000 bottles or more. This puts perfume processing factories in a passive position, as their production is affected by these requirements. Another important reason is the inherent constraints of the perfume industry itself. Customizing private label perfumes involves multiple processes and stages, so there are industry conventions regarding minimum order quantities. Small-scale perfume processing can also be accomplished, but it typically requires negotiation with the perfume manufacturer to schedule production along with similar large-scale orders if there happens to be a suitable large order available at the right time that aligns with your processing needs. In that case, small-scale perfume processing orders can be scheduled for production.
